Who is Michael?

Michael is the Managing Director at Geared Equity, a real estate private equity firm, and Geared Capital, a junior capital financing firm. He has over 15 years of business, governmental, and leadership experience, including serving on numerous non-profit and professional boards. He has started several businesses, including non-profits, and raised significant funding for major real estate developments and community projects. His wife Emily is an Occupational Therapist in the DC Everest School District where their three daughters attend elementary school. 

Why United Way?

I said yes to the United Way Board because of the high regard I had for past Board Members who chose to support the United Way. These were people who really cared about the success of their businesses and our community. If they were willing to lean into the United Way, I knew it was important work to be part of. I’ve been more inspired along the way as I’ve found that the United Way is uniquely positioned to unite the community in lifting 10,000 community members to financial stability over the next decade. It’s an exciting time to do our best work yet.
